History of the Pitta Bread
and Gergelim -- Pitta bread became first known
a few centuries before Christ, when women used to prepare
food for their husbands ans travelers accustomed to journey
in caravans for long periods of time across the deserts.
The bread shape was round and flat, and used as a dish
onto which they normally added wheat and condiments to
prepare their meal.
Over the time, this bread became increasingly spread throughout
the world, including Brazil. It was improved by a woman
who, due to World War II oppressions, came to our country
and brought with her the recipe for the tastier Pitta
Bread.
Her baked goods were spreading throughout the entire neighborhood,
and by following her friends' advice, she started to sell
bread and toasts in a rather shy manner, however, the
success was inevitable. Today, her bread and toasts are
commercialized with the Gergelim brand name thorughout
Brazil, and to other markets as well. Nowadays, Gergelim
bread is made by her grandchildren, in the same way and
with the same flavor and care as in the early days, and
is prepared in accordance to the highest quality and hygiene
standards, produced in its modern industrial complex.
For they have been developed exclusively by our factory
in Brazil, the Gergelim toasts are an unique product,
because there is not any other equal in all the countries
where they are already present and market researches were
done, standing out as a product that possesses a considerable
competitive advantage if compared to similar ones. |
